01Evaluate continuity over time first
A video is many frames played continuously. An image model makes one frame work; a video model must keep subject, position, light, movement and camera change coherent between frames. Time is the hard extra dimension: a correct face in frame one must remain the same person after turning, and a cup or car wheel must not change shape. Judge not only whether one frame is attractive, but whether the sequence remains one world.
02Separate the four generation modes
Text-to-video lets the model choose subject, composition, style and movement: it is free but can drift. Image-to-video starts from a frame and describes movement, which stabilizes a product, person or scene. Reference generation provides character, object, scene or style references across shots. Video editing changes style, background, object or movement in existing material. The starting input changes the control you have.
03Build one shot before a whole film
Most work is still built from clips lasting seconds. Give one shot one main action; it succeeds more often than a request for entering, sitting, drinking, speaking and leaving in one continuous take. Split fifteen seconds into three five-second shots: establish the place, show one action, then give result, emotion or product information. Each clip has one narrative function and editing joins them.
04Keep human intention, selection and responsibility
A model can propose composition, motion and sound, but cannot know which shot serves your real purpose. You decide audience, rhythm, factual accuracy, authorization for people and whether release needs an AI label. AI video changes the cost structure of acquiring footage; it does not remove storyboarding, asset management, selection, editing, sound and review.
05First exercise: make one image perform one action
Use a still life or landscape photograph you have the right to use and make image-to-video with one action only: “the camera slowly pushes forward, leaves move in a light wind, all other elements remain unchanged.” Then inspect deformation, background drift, whether camera motion occurred and the second where failure begins. Learn observation before prompt tricks.
